Faugh a Ballaugh/Cowabunga – a series of posters designed for the bookshop s/f in Auckland (NZ),
February 2009. Double-sided print, with on one side
actual/historical battle cries and on the other
side fictional ones.

A war cry is a yell or chant taken up in battle, usually by members of the same group to let the
enemy know you’re coming and arouse aggression. Battle cries are a universal form of display
behavior aiming at competitive advantage, ideally by overstating one’s own aggressive potential to
a point where the enemy prefers to avoid confrontation altogether and opts to flee.”
